Our primary curriculum focuses on foundational skills. Students take various classes, including Mongolian and English language classes. They also study math in both languages.
The goal is to help students think and learn in both English and Mongolian, guided by teachers who speak these languages. Besides core subjects, students have special classes like PE, computers, music, and art. These special classes aim to develop the whole child.
Primary students have one homeroom teacher who teaches in Mongolian. They also spend some lessons with an expat teacher. The Mongolian classes include subjects like Mongolian language, math, civics, human and the environment, and human and nature.
The English classes cover English language, math, social studies, and science. Students also visit the library to choose books in either English or Mongolian. This helps them improve their reading skills in both languages.
In middle school, our curriculum helps students improve their English and language skills. As they move into middle school and secondary school, we also teach them how to learn and think. They have different teachers for each subject instead of just one or two for the whole day.
Middle school students usually have classes in English, Mongolian, math, science, social studies, art, music, PE, and computer science. These classes can be taught in English, Mongolian, or sometimes both. The curriculum aims to develop global skills so students are well-prepared for the future.
In middle school, we help students form opinions, explain their thoughts, and explore their beliefs. This helps them understand and critique the world around them. At this age, they start to reason, use data, make predictions, and express ideas in different ways.
Middle schoolers get more control over their learning and can decide how to solve tasks or complete projects. Their friends become more important, so we include group projects and teamwork whenever possible.
In short, middle school is about teaching students how to learn and helping them explore and express their personal identity.
In high school, students focus on gaining practical skills to prepare for the world. They will complete the high school graduation program for Mongolia and New Brunswick, certified by AEI. This program includes a wide range of classes such as English, art, math, social studies, sciences, and career-focused courses.
Students can choose some of their courses to meet graduation requirements while also following the guidelines set by the Mongolian Ministry of Education. Additionally, they must complete 40 hours of community service outside of school to graduate. This helps them gain experiences that may guide their future career choices and enhance their learning.
High school studies become more challenging to prepare students for college or university, whether they stay in Mongolia or study abroad. They are expected to complete large projects with real-world applications.
Upon a successful completion of their courses and the curriculum requirements, students will graduate with both a Mongolian Diploma and a Canadian Diploma. Canadian diplomas are certified by AEI out of New Brunswick province.
In all learning areas at our school, we focus on Mongolian culture and identity. We want our students to feel proud of their heritage. We hope they appreciate Mongolia's rich history and traditions.
When students leave CSU for university, we want them to share Mongolian customs and culture with others. We weave this focus into lessons from grades 1 through 12. This commitment to Mongolian traditions and values makes CSU special.
Our curriculum includes New Brunswick's global competencies, which are six important soft skills. These skills help students succeed in the real world. The six skills are:
1. Collaboration
2. Communication
3. Sustainability and global citizenship
4. Self-awareness and self-management
5. Critical thinking and problem solving
6. Innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship
By teaching these skills in our lessons, we help students grow in each area. This makes them resilient and adaptable in a changing world. These skills will help students be successful in their future endeavors.
